June Wine Tasting With Sal
More than two dozen residents and guests attended Sal's wine tasting this month, where he was assisted by our very capable server, Vicky. The theme for this month was wines were from South Africa, and all were quite affordable -- the five wines ranged in price from $10.99 to $12.99 per bottle.
The wines served today were Chenin Blanc, Rosé, Pinotage, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sal talked about each of the wines before giving everyone a sample to taste. If you liked a particular wine, he or Vicky would pour more of it for you.
While Sal obviously knows a lot about wine, one thing I really like about him is that he is not pretentious about it — you won’t hear him make comments like “Ah yes, I’m getting subtle hints of damp forest floor and existential regret” or “I find it ambitious, but somewhat strident.” While he will suggest a wine pairing if asked, his advice is simple: drink whatever you like. If you want champagne with your fried chicken, then go for it.
We had simple snacks to go with the wine, and everyone had a great time. If you haven’t attended one of these wine tastings, you are really missing out. Watch the community calendars to see when the next wine tasting is coming up, and be sure to mark it on your personal calendar.
While you don’t have to sign up in the Activities Book in order to attend, if you do sign up in advance you’ll have a chance to win a bottle of wine.
